Gone Fishing ???

When I was young, my Dad used to take me fishing. It didn't take too many trips out on that little motor boat to learn that the ocean is a very BIG place. Even though I knew there were millions of fish swimming around, there was no guarantee that we'd go home with a bucketful at the end of the day. We would have to use a variety of bait and fishing techniques to make a catch.

Marketing your business on the Internet is a lot like going fishing. There are millions of potential customers ("fish") surfing around out there, but there's no guarantee you'll hook any of them by the end of the day. Just like fishing, you'll have to use a variety of ads ("bait") and some marketing skills ("fishing techniques") to make a catch.

When we went fishing, my Dad taught me that to catch different kinds of fish, you needed to use different kinds of bait. Marketing online also requires you to use a variety of "bait", depending on the kind of "fish" you want to catch.

Your ads are your bait and you will need to use different ads to attract different customers. Writing ads is a skill you will definitely want to master before you "go fishing".

I've done a lot of research on how to write a "good" ad. But what the pros consider good and what actually works can be two different things. Sometimes what the experts might consider a bad ad is actually the one that works! That's because different writing styles appeal to different people.

Sizzle and razzle-dazzle ads work for some people, serene and sensible ones work for others. You may be always writing your own ads in the style that appeals to you as a buyer. Therefore, youll want to try writing in a different style, even if it doesn't appeal to you. For example, here's a work from home ad written in two different styles:

STYLE 1 - Razzle Dazzle

Make BIG money working from home. Now you can live the life of your dreams, spend more time with your family, secure your financial future, and get what you want from life. Hurry, limited time only. Click here NOW!

STYLE 2 - Serene and Sensible

Would you like to have your own business, work from home, and profit from the power of the Internet? You can join a solid company that offers an easy-to-learn method of making money online. Click here for more information.

Which one appealed to you? Whichever it was, you may want to try writing in the other style if you find yourself always writing your ads the same way. If you want to catch different kinds of fish, you'll want to have different kinds of bait! You'll need ads that appeal to different people! I use a variety of ads written in a variety of styles. Some of them the experts would love and some they would hate. But, depending on where they are placed, they all work.

When you go fishing, you also learn that you can't simply bait the hook and throw it into the water and then just sit there. My Dad taught me how to "jiggle" the bait, cast it out and reel it back in, "drag" the bottom, and numerous other techniques to get the fish to bite. In your online marketing youll also have to apply some techniques to get your customers to bite.

You cannot simply write some ads and throw them around in a few places. You'll want to try different marketing techniques including banner ads, e-zine ads, classifieds ads, traffic generators, search engine submission, pay-per-click, and even FFA posting. And don't forget, you can use free advertising to test out the new "bait" and new "fishing techniques".

Sounds like a lot of work, doesn't it? So why bother? For the same reason you keep going fishing. You know those fish are out there, and it's just a matter of time before you "hook" the BIG one!

Fly Fishing the Pacific Inshore: Strategies for Estuaries, Bays, and Beaches

Fly Fishing the Pacific Inshore: Strategies for Estuaries, Bays, and Beaches

The bays, estuaries, and beaches that rim the west coast of North America--the Pacific inshore--offer some of the best fly-fishing opportunities to be found anywhere in the world. But the Pacific inshore offers its own unique set of challenges and demands. FLY FISHING THE PACIFIC INSHORE is an extraordinary book that will answer the questions posed by these complex saltwater environments.

Author Ken Hanley has fly-fished for an amazing array of saltwater gamefish in the Pacific, including barracuda, sharks, bonito, seabass, salmon, halibut, striped bass, and tuna. He is widely recognized as the expert on the techniques and equipment it takes to catch the fish of the Pacific inshore. He has shared his knowledge with more than ten thousand anglers in the workshops and clinics he has taught over the past three decades. In this book, he has distilled these decades of experience into the most complete explanation ever written on this fascinating fishery.

FLY FISHING THE PACIFIC INSHORE covers everything from the physical characteristics of estuaries, bays, and beaches to the many species of gamefish you can expect to find, the foods they eat, the equipment and flies you will need to catch them, and much more. Hanley delivers all this information in an engaging style that not only informs, but also leaves you anxious to get on the water and try it out for yourself.

This book is required reading for anyone who wants to pursue the abundant fish of the Pacific inshore.

Fly Fishing: A Woman's Guide

Fly Fishing: A Woman's Guide
"I knew I was in trouble when I began to dream about fly fishing ... Fly fishing had become a passion, not just a pastime. I was hooked," writes author Dana Rikimaru, one of America's leading fly fishing instructors, of her beginnings in this poetic sport. Filled with adventures and encouragement contributed by women who are already fly fishing, this woman-to-woman guide gives you everything you need to wade right in ... to know where to go ... what to take ... and how to savor every moment of discovering a new sport. It even provides resources that can connect you with other women fly fishers. So whether you fly fish "to catch fish" (even if you release them to be caught another day) or because, as the author says, "trout live in beautiful places," this guide is a woman's path into a very special activity.

Halford on the Dry Fly: Streamcraft of a Master Angler (Fly-Fishing Classics Series)

Halford on the Dry Fly: Streamcraft of a Master Angler (Fly-Fishing Classics Series)
Now acknowledged as the symbolic father of modern dry-fly fishing, Frederic M. Halford was known during his remarkable fishing career as the high priest of the art, the man whose milestone books codified the entire world of the dry-fly angler more than a century ago. Halford on the Dry Fly excerpts the core wisdoms from the original Halford book that launched the dry-fly revolution --and has influenced every generation of serious fly fishers since-- Dry-Fly Fishing in Theory and Practice. Halford on the Dry Fly shows a first-rate angling mind at work, a gifted naturalist who witnessed an historic moment in the development of fly fishing. No place else in the literature of fly fishing have the original basics been so clearly laid out, writes Paul Schullery.

Fishing Tid Bits How To Fish Part 1

Britannica Encyclopedia says

Sport of catching fish ? freshwater or saltwater ? typically with rod, line, and hook. Fishing is as old as the human ability to use tools to capture prey. The first significant modern innovations, including use of a reel, a rod with line guides, and a hook with an offset point, came in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Horsehair was used as line until the mid 19th century, when it was replaced by textile materials; these in turn were replaced by nylon in the 1930s. Wood and bamboo rods yielded to rods of fibreglass and other synthetic materials. Forms of sport fishing practiced today include fly fishing (freshwater), in which a fly-like hook is repeatedly cast upon the water surface to attract biting fish; bait fishing (fresh- and saltwater), in which live or artificial bait is set or drawn below the surface; and big-game fishing (saltwater), in which heavy-duty tackle is used to land large marine species (including tuna, marlin, and swordfish) from a motorized boat.
I say
If you ever had a bad day fishing then you weren?t fishing.

Okay with this article my series on fishing officially gets under way. For all those veteran fisher people out there I am going right back to basics on this series. I want it to not only help the seasoned fisherman but I would love to see more women and children out there as well. So enough with the chit chat and let?s get down to business.

Fishing Gear Big And Small

You don?t need a lot of equipment to begin your fishing experience. In fact I would suggest keeping things simple to start with. You just want to make sure you can get your hook to the fish. Once you become a more avid fisher person you can move up and start investing in some more superior tackle. But for now the equipment at your local retail will be more than sufficient.

Fishing Pole

This is as basic as it gets. A fishing pole. Just about anything with about 5 feet of length could be used as a fishing pole. On a pole you don?t use a reel. You tie a piece of line on with a hook on the other. The line should be long enough to flip off a dock or over the edge of a boat. Split shot weights which are small round pieces of lead can be tied on a couple of inches above the hook to help the hook sink. Or in the reverse you can use a bobber which is usually a red and white plastic floating ball. This is usually used to keep your hook higher in the water for those fish that are feeding near the surface.

This technique is very rarely used any more but years ago on the prairies many a fish were caught using this form of fishing.

This will be the end of my first edition of my series on fishing. Keep reading my articles as they will get more informative and detailed as time goes on.

Prince Edward Island Casts A New Light On Fishing In Canada

Prince Edward Island is the smallest province in Canada, yet this tiny gem, a perfect jewel of nature boasts some of the largest and best fishing opportunities for a summer vacation and most are pulled from the sapphire blue waters that surround it. Below the surface, a little deeper and the blue of the water tends towards a darker shade, hinting perhaps of a Marlin in its depths, the hoped for catch of the day as you charter your fishing expedition.

As renowned as the Island is for its lobster, for its potatoes and for its golf, there is little that can compare to the adventure offered by a deep-sea fishing expedition on Prince Edward Island. Your bounty is promised to be as varied as the island's geography; you can fish for mackerel one day or an elusive 800-lb. blue-fin tuna the next. This is an opportunity that is not to be missed, and an opportunity made that much more memorable when shared among friends.

Fishing in Canada doesn't get any better than it does on Prince Edward Island and charters are available usually from early in July throughout the summer and into September.

Admit it, aren't you a little intrigued? After casting your line into the deep blue depths of the Atlantic and catching your own fish, you're certain to gain a whole new appreciation both for fishing, and for eating fresh seafood.

Should you prefer a fishing experience with a quiet solitude and more leisure about it, grab a rod and a reel and make for a bridge or setting yourself on the edge of a pier and settle your hook into the water. For it is here that you'll find an abundance of Mackerel, a perfect catch for the day's dinner. And it is here that you'll also find a moment's peace unto yourself.

Venture inland on this Gentle Island and you fishing Canada adventure travels with you, particularly if you're a fly-fishing or trout fishing aficionado. Prince Edward Island is home to the Brook trout, however, Rainbow trout were introduced the island rivers in the 1940's.

And while the water world of Prince Edward Island is home to endless varieties of fish, it offers so very much more than that. A Prince Edward Island vacation is the opportunity to create memories to last a lifetime. You don't have to go deep to enjoy the ocean; there's nothing more refreshing than a swim in the warmest waters north of the Carolinas.

Of course, if you prefer your seafood already waiting for you on a platter, a vast number of restaurants on The Gentle Island offer some of the best seafood dining you'll ever experience. And don't forget to order famous PEI potatoes on the side.

On this Maritime island, other delights are as plentiful as the seafood. Sample, for instance, some of Canada's best golf courses, or stroll the endless beaches of white, champagne, pink or red sands.

Fishing and vacationing in Canada just doesn't get any better than this.

About the Author:

Cradled on the waves of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Prince Edward Island is known for the vivid colours of its gently rolling landscape and offers some of the best Canada fishing expeditions.

Fishpond Jacquard Web Belts

Design : Fishpond designs and manufactures its own Jacquard webbing for use as accents on our products, and this very same webbing makes a great belt to wear with shorts and pants that get wet. Features : • Will not stain clothing like leather when wet • Corrosion resistant zinc alloy buckle • Strong yet soft and supple • Unique fishpond colorful designs • Great for use in salt water • Adjustable for most sizes • Length can be shortened by cutting excess webbing and sealing with heat or flame Dimensions : • Length 47" Fishpond is the fly-fishing industry's newest and most innovative accessory products company. We're small, but our products are already making more than a few ripples. By rethinking product design from the ground-up, we've created an impressive line up of fly-fishing storage products and accessories that look great, and outperform anything else available on the market. We started with a few simple ideas: design and create a tippet dispenser, develop an innovative cutting tool or clipper, and reshape the fly storage category with the creation of a series of soft-sided cases and chest packs. Our simple ideas turned into very complex design obstacles and challenged some of the best industrial designers in the country, yet we've succeeded with our vision and created a line of revolutionary accessory products that will stand the test of time. Fishpond is all about design and function . We are the first to bring a functional tippet dispenser to the market-one that stores, straightens, cuts and dispenses tippet material directly from most commercially manufactured freshwater tippet spools. Look for our saltwater version in the coming months. Tired of plastic and aluminum fly boxes? We've also created an entirely new product category with our molded nylon and soft-sided fly cases. With ease-of-use in mind, brightly colored jacquard webbing on the spine serves as a hand strap to securely hold the case while on the water. This gives our cases their signature style and unparalleled function. To keep us on the cutting edge, we're redefining the accessory segment with revolutionary products like our patented, ergonomically designed Titanium Clippers with optional integrated retractor that make competitive tools based on the traditional nail clipper obsolete. Our research has told us that fly-fishing enthusiasts want to lighten their load. In response to this trend, fishpond has created two new chest/fanny packs that can complement or replace the traditional fishing vest. Each product has our signature zip-down "fly bench" with a replaceable foam fly page that serves as a convenient fly changing station and work area. At fishpond, we're committed to staying on the leading edge of fly-fishing product design, and we're already hard at work on the next generation of new products to enhance our position as an emerging leader with our dealer-partners and customers. Fishpond is connected to the past and it's timeless traditions, but its focus is on making designs for the fly-fishing enthusiast that will endure the future. We're committed to our dealer-partners and consumers at every level, and want to earn your trust and support by offering quality service, delivery and creativity.

An ever increasing number of tourists all over the world plan their holidays to places that provide fishing opportunities. Orlando, apart from its great resorts, theme parks and huge malls is also known for fishing. A lot of tourists and holiday makers are lured all round the year to Orlando solely by its fishing avenues. Although tourists and visitors are steadily exploring the fishing avenues in Orlando, what's generally known about the same is only a fraction of what Orlando has to offer. It has been seen that one fishing experience in Orlando can make many a tourist yearn to repeat the same as soon as possible.

With almost 1,200 miles of coastline, 12,000 miles of rivers and streams, almost 8,000 lakes and 2,100 marinas, Florida is a paradise for fishing and boating enthusiasts and Orlando is no exception. Lakes, rivers and freshwater canals maintain a constant flow of fish like bass, crappie, blue gill and catfish. The most used tackle includes cane poles, plug casting reels, spinning reels and fly rods, and baits range from live worms and shiners to plastic worms and crank baits. Always remember that one needs to acquire a license in order to fish in Orlando. One can purchase this license at the county tax collector's office, subagents such as tackle shops, fish camps, hardware stores and sporting goods stores, through the state's new toll-free phone number (1-888-FISH-FLORIDA) or the state government's web site MyFlorida.com.

Halibut Fishing Florida Style

During the summer of 2006 in Larsen Bay Alaska, the staff at Kodiak Island Resort http://www.kodiakresort.com decided to experiment with different tactics for catching halibut. The traditional method using terminal tackle with 16/0 circle hooks, 2-pound sinkers and 130-pound Dacron line that have always produced fish. The down side to this style of fishing is it is tiresome holding heavy rods and reels. Fishing with a fully rigged halibut outfit requires a lot of strength and energy we decided to try and change all of that.

After various experiments we tried a Florida style grouper rig for halibut and were surprised with the results. Fishing thirty pound monofilament, seven foot Star rod, a three ounce egg sinker and 7/0 Mustad J-hook consistently outfished the traditional halibut rig. The results were so overwhelming that often times the light tackle would produce bites and catches of 4 and 5 times the rate of the traditional tackle.

We found using an octopus tentacle, about eight inches long, for bait, proved deadly to the unsuspecting halibut. We caught countless fish using this style, in the 20-40 pound range, with our biggest topping out at 87 pounds.

The one down side from light tackle halibut fishing is your inability to control the numerous "barn door halibut" that like this style of fishing as well. On more than one occasion big halibut chomped down on our offerings and refused to return our gear. In fact they would take the hook, sinker and line (completely dump the reel) without even saying thanks.

If you don't mind missing a few big ones but want to increase you catch while expending a lot less energy try Florida style grouper tactics to catch Alaska Halibut.

The halibut fishing around Kodiak Island is so good you can split your time fishing terminal gear for the barn doors then switching over to catch the 20-40 pound chickens for the dinner table. Kodiak Island Resort will provide you with both opportunities to catch halibut.

Fishing Virginia's Highlands: An Angler's Guide (Angler's Guides)
Rich in angling lore, the secluded lakes and rivers of Virginia's Highlands offer some of the best trout and smallmouth bass fishing found anywhere in the state. From the Alleghany Highlands in the north (which encompass Alleghany, Bath, and Rockbridge counties) to the Blue Ridge/Grayson Highlands in the southwest (which include Grayson, Smythe, and Washington counties), these portions of the commonwealth offer many high-yield rivers, lakes, and streams including Lake Moomaw, the Maury River, South Holston Lake, and the North Fork of the Holston River. In his new guide, Fishing Virginia's Highlands, M. W. Smith extends his ongoing tour of the state's greatest fishing spots to these two remote regions, offering readers excellent advice on where, when, and how to catch more fish in Virginia's Highlands.

Renowned for its mineral springs, the Alleghany Highlands is home to world-famous spas, including the Homestead in Bath County, making it a popular destination for many outdoor enthusiasts. The Blue Ridge/Grayson Highlands, which is surrounded by such cities as Abingdon, Bristol, Winston-Salem/Greensboro, and Charlotte, is also a common weekend getaway spot. By considering these two areas in one volume, Smith provides valuable information for anglers and other visitors, giving readers the information they need to enjoy the natural beauty of the waters and to catch more fish from them. Complete with a comprehensive map of the regions' streams, notes on specific fishing locations keyed to maps in DeLorme's Virginia Atlas and Gazetteer, and an appendix that lists local guide services, tackle shops, camping sites, and parks, Smith's guidebook is a compact and informative resource.

Whether you are a visitor or a longtime resident, novice angler or pro, Fishing Virginia's Highlands will prove an indispensable guide to every fishing adventure you undertake in highland waters.

Rods & Wings: A History of the Fishing Lodge Business in Bristol Bay, Alaska

Rods & Wings: A History of the Fishing Lodge Business in Bristol Bay, Alaska
Rods & Wings, A History of the Fishing Lodge Business in Bristol Bay, Alaska, is a story filled with vision, humor, irony, tragedy, hardship, tremendous courage, and people. This story is especially about people, hardy pioneers who challenged Alaska through the air, on the lakes and rivers, and over the tundra. The first lodge developers came by plane; the materials they needed came later by barge, by air, and across the ice. Nothing was simple. Nothing came easily.

From General Omar Bradley, Dwight Eisenhower, and Adlai Stevensen in the early days to Jack Lemmon, John Elway, and General Norman Scwarzkopf in more recent times, the guests have been as fascinating as the lodge owners themselves. The history of the lodges is about much more than fishing. It is about challenging a formidable wilderness and opening new frontiers. This is an enthralling saga which will capture the attention of readers everywhere.

Fishing the Great Lakes: An Environmental History, 1783-1933

Fishing the Great Lakes: An Environmental History, 1783-1933
Fishing the Great Lakes is a sweeping history of the destruction of the once-abundant fisheries of the great "inland seas" that lie between the United States and Canada. Though lake trout, whitefish, freshwater herring, and sturgeon were still teeming as late as 1850, Margaret Bogue documents here how overfishing, pollution, political squabbling, poor public policies, and commercial exploitation combined to damage the fish populations even before the voracious sea lamprey invaded the lakes and decimated the lake trout population in the 1940s.
From the earliest records of fishing by native peoples, through the era of European exploration and settlement, to the growth and collapse of the commercial fishing industry, Fishing the Great Lakes traces the changing relationships between the fish resources and the people of the Great Lakes region. Bogue focuses in particular on the period from 1783, when Great Britain and the United States first politically severed the geographic unity of the Great Lakes, through 1933, when the commercial fishing industry had passed from its heyday in the late nineteenth century into very serious decline. She shows how fishermen, entrepreneurial fish dealers, the monopolistic A. Booth and Company (which distributed and marketed much of the Great Lakes catch), and policy makers at all levels of government played their parts in the debacle. So, too, did underfunded scientists and early conservationists unable to spark the interest of an indifferent public. Concern with the quality of lake habitat and the abundance of fish increasingly took a backseat to the interests of agriculture, lumbering, mining, commerce, manufacturing, and urban development in the Great Lakes region. Offering more than a regional history, Bogue also places the problems of Great Lakes fishing in the context of past and current worldwide fishery concerns.
